Does anyone have any first hand experience running the Dynomax VT mufflers? I currently run their super turbos, but was thinking of changing when I redo the exhaust this winter.

Have them on my 318 car, they are pretty quiet daily driver style (2.5" tti pipes manifolds back). the get a bit louder when you stomp on it but overall super quiet in my opinion.

yeah I would compare them to something you might find on a stock-ish car in terms of noise.

Very quiet at idle, no drone or resonation. Not perfect for big cammed engines or big thumpy cubic inch monsters but very good for most others.

I have a set @ 2-1/2 off set in, center out. I myself didn't like the sound or the level of it on my mostly stock 5.9 with 1-3/4 headers into a true dual exhaust.
No noise from the flapping valve. I was looking for something pretty quite for my cruiser and ended up with Dyno Max Super Turbos.
There just sitting around collecting dust now.

Tom My engine is 500 cubes, and the cam is 236/242 duration so it has a noticeable idle. I currently have the super turbos with no crossover. I will be adding an H pipe when I install the mufflers. My car is street/strip and I thought that these would be a good compromise with relatively quiet cruising and pretty much straight through at the strip. I talked to their tech line and I was going to order 2 of their 17956 mufflers designed for over 4 L engines, since mine specs out at 8.2 L. Apparently they run a stronger flapper spring.

Rumble, I am looking for that same size and offset. Do you know what part number yours are? So you feel the super turbos are quieter in normal cruising?

When I get back home this evening I'll check the box for the number. Snap a picture for you.

The Super Turbos were more consistent on the noise level. Not as loud on part throttle and way more quiter on W.O.T. acceleration.
Also being that the muffler is a straight through perforated tube surrounded by some packing. (What they use, I don't know.) It has a "rap" sound to it like a glass pack but not so nasty like the glass pack l.

I have them on my Barracuda and I do like them. Quite at idle and cruising speed and a nice bark when you jump on it. Stock 340 manifolds, 3 inch tti kit with x-pipe ran out the back.

QK, If you want to try a set, I have pair of offset center 2.5" ones Ill let you run and listen to. If you like them, we can deal, if not, send them back. As long as they are not welded on or destroyed by a muffler shop dude with an impact gun set for stun, I'll take them back.

I'm interested in trying them, but since I am in Canada shipping them may be an issue because of size and weight. Please PM me with prices if you are interested in selling.

a friend has them on his stock rt/se challenger. had a horrible drone with dynomax super turbos. put the VT's on it and the dron went away so he was happy. i've only heard it once.. it was quiet when he started it.. says it gets louder when he gets into the throttle.

says it gets louder when he gets into the throttle.

Yep, that's what mine does (17963) on my daily driver Ram. Running it two years now and still working fine. Outside shell is rusting but it's still solid.

I guess I should listen to some sound clips of some of the other straight through packed mufflers before I decide. I am after a quieter cruise, but I find the super turbos to be plenty loud enough when I get on it.

Quite? Hint for the endeavor...

Longer the muffler case, the quiter it will be.

Right, and in this case only half of the muffler is actually packed with glass, the other half is an open chamber.

What muffler? The VT muffler?
It is a straight through perforated tube with glass wrapped all around in the casing. The only other sound control is the spring loaded flap.

Right, but now that I look at it, it only half of the case has the perforated pipe with the glass packing. The other half is the chamber with the valve. Once the valve is open I am assuming you are only getting any muffling from the glass packed half. This would be compared it to the ultraflow of the same size.

Ahhhhh HA!

I sit here corrected, sorry about that, yep! Your correct. I was thinking about the below muffler. Silly me. DUH!

And yea, I guess it is comparable-ish kindoff. A whole lot less fiberglass to quite it down. The valve takes up some flow area. Not that I would worry about it.

I don't know if that area on the otherside where the valve and springare happen to be "OPEN" to the rest of the case. I'd have to dig mine out to know.

It was quite good at idle.

before I would get one of those, I would install the longest oval 3-pass muffler on there, I could find with at least a 3" pipe from the headers, and put the valve at the back bumper.
The Dynomax STs are on my car with 3" outlets; very nice, IMP of course.
Oh yeah, turn downs just aft of the rear valence and just inside the bumper rearmost edge, so I can't skin my shins on them. No shotgun pipes!

Is that a dual exhaust Ram? I've been thinking about putting one on mine as well, I tow with it, so there is a good chance for drone. All of the other mufflers I have tried droned too bad while towing and came off, do you like the VT and do you tow with it?

Yep, I like it.
It's a single in and dual out under the rear bumper of my '05 5.7 Ram 1500. My review (1st one) is on Summit with a 2 year follow up.........

I mainly tow my boat these days. Single axle trailer about 3500 lbs. depending what's loaded.......

After all the feedback, and listening to too many video clips, I am going to give the VT's a try. I ordered new tailpipes from TTi, so the system will be a complete TTi 2 1/2 inch H pipe system. We are in the deep freeze right now, so it will be spring before I have any results. If I get a good day I will try and do a before video with the current system, dynomax super turbos and stock tailpipes with no H pipe.

Dave, go into your profile, I think i sent you a message.
