How early? 65 and older A body never had a console. Not for 4 speed. 66 is the same as later, coffin style. You can use a 66 and later console...
Disregard all this incorrect info^^^^^Wrong again...

I saw a thread where Layson’s has them now in stock

I don't think I'd call it a console - it's more like a floor bezel!

The "coffin" style console was used between 66 and 76. The console bodies may be slightly different between the years and the top plates changed to woodgrain in 1969.

The coffin style console will not fit in a 65 and earlier car, the seats are too wide and there is no room between the seats for that style console!

I jammed one of them between a set of buckets when I had my Convertible and I mean jammed them in. Couldn’t move either seat but that was OK since the seats were where I wanted them anyway

The "coffin" style was used from 66-69, it went away in 1970. 66-68 are the same, 69 was unique. If anyone has ever seen a 4-speed console in a factory 70-76 A-Body and can prove it with fender tag and or broadcast sheet info I am all ears...
