I seemed to recall that the paper gaskets on 4-speeds were not supposed to have any sealant on the front gasket and side cover.

I just got done cleaning off the front gasket that someone sealed on with silicone (was leaking).

I just need to confirm whether I remember correct? Gasket Sealer on the front & side cover, or no?

Don't ever use sealer on any of the gaskets, it may damage the gasket, the only thing I would use sealer on is the threads of the bolt's.When you get your gasket set it tell's you not to put sealant on them.

I made the gaskets for it with the material that I had and ball-pene hammer, so didnt have gasket kit. The side gasket ended up being stuck to the casing, so I just torqued it back down after replacing the o-rings. I did put some copper coat sealer on the front, just because the gasket is pretty narrow where the oil passage comes out the front, and I wanted to ensure complete seal. If I ever take it apart again, will have to scrape just like I did this time around.

thanks for the advice.

I like a real thin layer of Copper Coat too. If you're carefull, you can sometimes save the gasket when you remove it next time.
