Anyone using these heads? 318/340/360 or Magnum? Issues? What Rockers are you using? Performance? Are there accessory holes in heads (drilled and tapped)?

I currently have an LA motor with the factory stock magnum heads. Was going to go with the 318/340/360 heads but relation of mine advised me to go with the magnum to get away from the shaft mtd rockers.

Thanks,
Eric

I,m running the Eddy,(LA)heads on my 410 with shaft mounted Pro magnum roller rockers. No problems. Is your relation a Chevy guy?LOL

There a bolt on and run deal except I had a little bit of a problem mounting the Alt. with the Edel. head because it is slightly longer than the "LA" head it replaced. You can simply grind/cut down the tube stock for it to fit.

I have run the "LA" head from Edelbrock for a long time now. OOTB and on to a 11-1, 360 cube engine, smallish Purple cam, Hooker super comps, 4spd/4.10 geared E body Cuda ran mid 12's...OOTB! At 3600 or so lbs. (Without me in it) , I'd say it went well. Pump gas freindly engine.
And faster I went still.

IMO, Moving away from shaft mounted rockers is one of the most stupidest things I have ever heard. Don't move away from a shaft mounted rocker, since it is a stronger design, though factory "OE" set ups are week for high performance builds.
I used MP and Comp Cams Magnum roller rocker and there hardened shafts. Both were very nice. Comp Cams has them for a reasonable price and Huges has a beautiful set for slightly cheaper.

The only bennifit to the Magnum heads are;

Higher ratio rocker
Any other bennifit is most minor. As in the Magnum head makes use of "CHEAP" Chevy rockers.

Thanks,
Eric

Eric, please step away from your "Relations" and enjoy the car.

And 58cc combustion chamber OOB. Whether that's an advantage or not depends on pistons.

If you're looking at new heads and you've already got the Magnum valvetrain figured out, you might try the EQ Iron Ram heads from hughes. I'm very happy with mine, and they'll save a couple of bucks over the edelbrocks (but not pounds, they are heavy suckers). Supposedly flow better than the Eddies too.

I'm not sure why you'd flee the shaft rocker system for pedestal mount either. The Magnum stuff supposedly flows better than most of the LA heads, though.

Good mention on the head CC amount and most true if a build needs it or figured into it... or not.
Between the Edelbrock heads, "LA" vs Magnum head, the flow numbers are super close.
Edelbrock vs other heads in a OOTB condition is another story since many have complained about the Edel. heads not flowing what they advertised them to flow at. This is a problem in itself since bench racing dyno's and air flow equipment is a bad thing. Each operator gets a different reading.

One other thing about eddy heads (which I just fu&kin found out about) is that they use a smaller stem size then the standard LA head. Just had to order another set of Ferrea valves to put in the eddy heads. Still the cool thing about they is higher compression with aluminum
