I'm trying to tune my 340 after installing a Comp XE274 cam and I'm having a problem setting the idle. Got the timing set at 16* initial and 34* total at 3000 rpm. The idle is 900 with 14 inches of vacuum but of course I have no idle mixture screw control. Took the carb off and most of the transfer slot is exposed. So I set it to .025 slot exposed and it won't stay running. I had the same problem with Holleys and you just had to crack open the secondaries a touch with the stop screw, simple. Now with this Edelbrock there is no stop screw for the secondaries.
Should I just start drilling the throttle plates? Or is there an easier way?

I would first try and bump up the initial to around 20 degrees and then see how it goes.

Do you have the pcv valve connected? If not it maybe provide enough bleed air to close up the transfer slot so try that next. If you don't you can try a ball **** valve connected to the front of the carb where the pcv is usually connected and by varying the opening size you can see what your engine needs and saves you drilling blades.

I ran an 800 AVS in a 360 with over 100 degrees overlap and i ended up connecting the pcv port directly into the air cleaner to get enough bleed air to balance out the idle.
