Hey Y'all:

So I picked up an electronic slant6 ignition system out of an early '80s vintage D-100? pickup, plus, what I think is referred to as a squareback Chryco alternator with solid state regulator. I'm going to install these into my '64 Valiant. Some of the wiring upgrades to do one or the other appear to connect to each other. I know it's not good technique to do 2 upgrades at once, if you have trouble......it's harder to troubleshoot!
I think I'll do the alternator first, with some temporary wiring to the ballast resistor from the field coils, and make sure I'm charging, then once that is working OK, I'll do the ignition.

The ignition wiring to the ballast resistor on my "new" electronic harness are red and pink? not brown and blue as described in the Allpar conversion webpage, but I think I've figured out which is which.

I just have to get some new heavy gauge wire and a fusible link for the alternator, then.....let the fun begin.

I'll post later if all goes well...or otherwise.

it should be a easy swap, good ideal only doing one at a time, good luck and keep us posted.

So I spent about 2 hours installing the alternator, it took a while because of having to solder and heat shrink all the joints, plus, my colours didn't quite match up to the instructions that I was reading. Started the car up and got 15.1 volts @ idle, stayed the same when revving the engine, so I guess everything is working. Then I installed the electronic ignition...and then the fightin' started.
