Hello, FABO,

The windshield wipers on my '67 Barracuda have always seemed slow (at least in comparison to more modern cars), but today I noticed that they speed up when I turn the heater blower motor off. I have been troubleshooting the wipers for some time now (checking wiring, grounds, etc) but I can't seem to get the wipers right. Is this a voltage regulator problem?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Sounds as though it could be a voltage regulator issue. I used to run the solid state cheapo silver voltage regulator on my Duster and I had many issues of voltage dropping when I tried to run accessories. I have since switched out to the Mopar Race regulator (Blue One) and ever since I did, big difference!!!! No more dim headlights, slow directional signals or slow wipers. This regulator puts out a constant voltage of 13.5 volts and it has made a world of difference.

Dustermaniac,

Thanks for the information. From what I can see online, it states that the blue regulator is for racing only, as it provides constant 13.5 volts rather than fluctuating from 11 to 13.5. Have you noticed any problems since you started using the blue regulator?

Thanks,

Blind Squirrel

If you have never checked/cleaned the main power connectors going thru the firewall take a look at them. if they are corroded you will get a significant voltage drop there. Also the connections at the ammeter or the meter itself can become a trouble spot.

I have been using the blue regulator on both of my Barracudas for years and they work just fine. I do agree with Steve68 that you should check your wiring all the way to the ammeter to see if you have resistive wiring issues resulting in a voltage drop.

Doesn't the blue one require a different plug from what the stock Barracuda wiring is?
The blue one looks like a pin connector, and mine has a wire plugged into the top, and one on the bottom.

Thanks to all who have replied. I'll check the wiring, and if needed go with the blue voltage regulator.

Thanks again.
