I dont know where to post this so I hope here is ok?

First off its not any MOPAR, so go easy please.

My Pops is putting together a motor for his vintage racing model A.

He found a deal on a un built 468 ci bow tie. W
The Enderle manual injection.
Brodex heads of un known cc.
13-1 pistions.
and some verry nice custom headders.

We know this motor will require race gas but what can we do to make it as "streetable" as possible?

Belt drive fuel pump?
big Holley eletric pump?

From what I hear it will be on or off?
anyone ever run Enderle manual injection on the street and how did you achieve it?

Thank you for your time and advice.

You might consider converting it to EFI. "It's been done" but I know little about it. I'm actually thinking (in my over-ambitious-ness_ of hand building a steel tube intake and use "bike" (Jap 4 banger) injectors. The popular "buzz" word nowadays is either "8 stack" or "ITB" that is "independent throttle bodies"

Those things were intended for competition. The American drag race editions that is, Hilborn, Enderle, etc, were NEVER very streetable. Closest thing I know of was the old Can-Am big block cars which used a more complicated mechanical Lucas "stuff" for metering.

The sound alone is........

This guy built his own, but of course you already have the stack stuff

And if you saw any of the "Blasphemi" stuff, that was a stack injected hemi with EFI. VERY streetable......

I've installed a few Hillborns that were converted to EFI. Tuning was a bit funky with their carabine system, but they were very drivable once tuned. I'm with Del on the EFI conversion. It will make things so much more enjoyable. Once you dial it in, that is.

SB Chev with old Hilborn, converted to Megasquirt EFI This sounds like a fairly mild engine

Here's a member here, but we haven't heard from him in awhile. This is an early (392) hemi with LOTS of home/ hand / custom made parts, turbocharged, injected

Generally, manual injection does two things well. Idle and flop wide open. Any part throttle operation kinda sucks.

There's a seller on Ebay......very reputable. his screen name is alkydigger. Might have a hyphen or something, I cannot remember. He sells manual to EFI conversions. Might get in touch with him.

Here he is. He has his own web site.

Thanks fellas.

Thats what i figured. I was hoping there was some tuning we could do get a semi streetable car out of this stuff.

I dont know the numbers on the cam off the top of my head but i think it will need to get changed.

Im verry familiar with the Roadkill show, Its one of my favorite and if anyone aint seen it check it out.

Heres a pick of the motor in the shop.

She got a lot more.room around the engine than my A body...

If anyone has ideas as to tameing this thing for the street feel free to let me know. The EFI conversion is something we are kicking around. We would love to have this car be able to run events like drag week.

Enjpy the picks and thanks again for all the time and advice.

There is no doubt that EFI, in general, helps tame a beast. That thing looks wild as all 'ell For street, huge throttles won't help you much

There lies the problem, When installed I have no doubt that this package will make the car very quick and fast. The problem i see is every other throttle position...

The idea is to have a period show/vintage race/car u can drive to dinner.... A lot i know. At least he aint looking for AC...

period correct is of the utmost importance on thos build so anything new looking is out. Thats why the injection system, Pops wants peripd correct bit i think when he cracks this beast he may want to spend the cash on EFI.. :burnout:

Thanks again for any ideas.

I just got off the phone with Alkydigger. Mike the owner was not in when asking for tech i got transferd to a nother of his daughters..Those girls know cars. I enjoy that verry much!

one funny thing is they will sell all the parts but WILL NOT give any advice on how to install the parts they sell....

oh well, ther knowledge os top notch and the kit come with the self learning Holly ecu!

3,000 fun duckets, some labor and we get idle, partal throttle!! and WOT!!!
oh yes!

Thanks folks!

Mechanical injection on the street sucks.I ran it bit not very far in Alky.Had to lean it out so the car idled high so I wouldn't wash down the cylinders.Braking and holding it still at lights ,ect... was tough

I think I could go 11 miles on 5 gals if I didn't smash the gas

Bigdummy, You sir seem to be just the brain im looking for.
Was efi the solution?
Were you able to ever tune the mechanical injection for any streetabillity?

Thank you for your time and.advice

I was saying it's not a good idea. But I used different nozzle jets till my car wouldn't Rev then put the next size higher then tuned with the pill for the return. You can tune each cylinder separate but it was eisier to just square them off my egt Temps was 1140 and my motor ran the best. Some of my friends ran theirs rich that caused their oil to milk.i forget what percentage I had my barrel valve at but my car weighed 3060 with driver 511 Cid ran 5.60.If I tuned every cylinder it would pick up a tenth to tenth and a half.

This is a crummy street pass with weak springs

Mechanical injection is cool lookin and makes your car run but is not practical

what i think your are saying is convert the Enderly mech, to alkydigger EFI.
My fear is if i dont install and weld it all just right I will waist a bunch of my pops money and the car will run like dog meat.

Mechanical injection on alky or gas is very hard or your engine unless you take short hops.electronic is the best but I can't afford it.

I installed one of the Enderle EFI systems on a blown 426 in a T-bucket (because everyone NEEDS 750 HP[dyno'd] in a street t-bucket with no front brakes). I can't say that I'm all that impressed with the system. I consider myself semi-savvy about things EFI and I was still on the phone with their tech guy several times.

For the effort I'd have gone MegaSquirt. Better system overall.

Thanks forbthe heads up about mega squirt, I had forgot about them.

What makes u say there a better product?

I very much like the idea of the holly self learning ecu and we know a holly tech.. 80 bucks an hour..

I will be calling mega squirt and alkydigger on monday and asking more questions.

Thank you again.
