engine dies after start up

i am starting fresh engine will fire and start but when i let key go to run on its own it dies, plenty of gas by the way it has pertronix if it matters? thanks

sounds like you don't have the start/run wiring correct. mymopar.com has electrical diagrams for that circuit.

Your problem is a textbook example of a bad ballast.

I had the same problem when I first fired mine up with the MSD 6AL box. All I did was take the ballast out of the loop and it worked great. Not sure if Pertronix is set up the same though.

the pertronix red wire runs to the 12 volt side of the ballast resistor(from the ignition switch), but you keep the ballast to protect the coil.
