Yup, I have little room. I can move the car a couple feet for and aft while straddling the suspension. I would love to do it with the trans installed but not a deal breaker.
Anybody pull that off?

The only thing that will be a problem is moving the hoist sideways.

You might be able to rig up some swivels on the stationary wheels

The car can move. Learned that one installing Buck Buster bumpers.

The car can move
So an engine on a hoist has 4 legs.

The car will have to move forward 4 to 5 feet to install the engine and trans.

At least one front wheel will have to go over the hoist leg

Three pieces of heavy angle iron bolted to the hub on a sled.

Not saying it can't be done, just today I removed a built-in oven / microwave combo by myself.

Just use physics to your advantage!

I did a motor swap in my Ventura this summer from the side, was a lot easier than I expected. Patience will be your best friend. Having it on my hoist helped a whole lot.

I've lifted the body (factory) with a hoist then installed motor/trans unit from below. [suspension was disconnected]
My garage is 18x18 with side wall with workbench, tools, etc.
I thought about sideways but my luck the windshield would be a casualty.

I get with the trans installed. Thanks

You come here asking for opinions and if anyone's done this and yet, it seems you have it all figured out. Just post pictures or video. We wanna see it.

I come here seeking advise. What makes you think I have it all figured out?

Because you seem to say so. Post pictures or video when you do it.
Not really or i did not intend to do so. A little more support to try this idea may have me trying it but I will wait until I can have the room to do it traditionally.

I put the a-100 motor in through the door if that counts
Been there !

Did that pulling the 170 straight 6 and installing a 289 v8 in a 63 Econoline.

The last time pulling the 289 I raised the front of the van and dropped the engine and trans out the bottom.
