Ok I wire wheeled my Block to bare metal and rinsed it out with dawn dishsoap and sprayed her down with WD-40.

Now I have some paint thinner I am gonna use on the Intake and heads I think... And rinse off the block just before painting.

I plan on assembling the Block.Oil Pan.Heads(-Commando Valve Covers). [maybe the Intake as well]
and then painting that as a unit with a Red-Orange.

I want to do the timing cover.water pump.and maybe intake. a Hi-temp Silver

Also I am planning on Bare metal primering the Engine Bay and shooting with High temp Silver. The car is Medium Turquiose...

And will Probably paint the underside of the hood in the near future... I am thinking Matte Black would be fine...

My questions are:
-What brand/color of paint will work well to achieve a Mopar Orange for a reasonable price... I have heard to stay away from the thin "Mopar" brand enamel.
-Should I bare metal primer the thing before I spray Hi-Temp engine paint?! I have plenty of white and grey Bare metal rustoleum primer...

The WD40 was a bad move. You need to clean that off real good. Paint and oil dont get a long.

I usually use Plasti-coat spray paints for motors.

Yeah I know. Had to protect it in the mean time though. I'll use that thinner and or some Alcohol pre paint.

Do you ever use primer before plasti-coat?

I like to spray the block down with brake cleaner because it leaves no residue, and dupli-color or plastic-coat give excellent results...

Don't forget to top it with high-temp clear. The orange will still look wet a year later.

I always use the Mopar colors never have had any troubles with it.The trick is to put on enough paint.I see ALOT of people who paint their engines and do not use enough paint and it looks like hell.I always use 3 cans when I paint a engine I usally paint the intake and valve covers as well..Everyone always asks how do you get your engine to look so good. The trick is paint a clean surface and use enough paint. And then when you start driving it clean the engine every so often by hand.

The other trick with the mopar paint is to use several light coats instead of trying to get it to cover in one or 2 heavy ones. The Mopar paint has been changed though as the last cans I recieved from Summit were in the new cans, not sure how it's going to hold up.

I just had great success with DupliColor's Chrysler Orange.

But must admit I felt a little shiver at the mention of orange Commando valve covers. Here is all I have to offer ...

Um just to clarify I said -commando valve covers "-" LOL I do not want orange up on my Valve covers. I want the Wrinkle black to last... My car gets driven hot and hard. I need to find a good Wrinkle black. Does primer help if it is not High temp? Am I to be the guinney pig here.. Cool I'll do it?!!!!
