Engine stalling after be driven hard?

The last two times I have driven my car I have had issues with it stalling after doing some hard pulls. If I drive the car normal it runs fine and idles around 800 rpm. If I beat on the car then it will stall and crank slowly and fire up. It seems to stall when I am lightly on the gas idling. Any ideas?
 
I bet you're running too lean during the transfer from the idle circuit to the main circuit.

Im going to throw a different carburetor on it and see if it is an issue with the edlebrock. If that's the issue I may just rebuild a Holley and use it as my cruising carburetor.

Timing is set at 16 initial and 35 total by the way, I should have said that in the first post.
 
your stirring up a tiny amount of sediment in your carb...
try taking it apart and cleaning everything spotless.
 
If there is not a lean running problem, could you be heating up a gas line and having a vapor lock problem.. Just a thought..
 
I was going to suggest a fuel issue as well
(maybe as simple as running the bowls dry, and not being able to replenish them quick enough) but the slow cranking doesn't make sense

do I read it right, to think it cranks at a lower RPM when this happens then under normal circumstances?
and if the engine is hot, and you shut it off and turn it back on, does it turn slow like when it stalls or fast like when its cold?
 
If I turn the engine off when it's hot and start it the car cranks and fires normal. When it stalls out and I crank it its one slow crank then fires.
 
According to the temp gauge the car has never overheated since my rebuild 2 years ago.
 
You could see what happens if you just turn the idle mix screw up a little, and add a little bit of accel enrichment.
 
I had a little different problem, i replaced a rotted rubber section of my fuel tank vent line. Every time after that, when i mashed the Go peddle it would run out of gas before i got thru 1 gear. Ended up that the metal part of the vent line was full of bug, and when i took the rubber line back off and blew all the trash out, problem when a way.
Have you done anything to it lately that many point you to the problem.

Nope. Haven't touched it other than checking my timing and plugs since the rebuild.
 
Do you know what is your compression ratio, or the pistons? If the CR is up around 9.5 or 10:1, then the slow-crank-then-fire may just be startup engine kickback when hot; that is not uncommon at all for higher compression engines with initial timing in that range. It will vary somewhat with the cam too, with longer duration cames being less prone to do so.

The rough running could be fuel boiling. Are you running pump gas? If so, try some quality 93 octane like Shell. If you don't have a carb heat shield, it may be time to add one. Take off the air cleaner right after shutdown when hot and see if there is vapor coming out of the carb's bowl vents. If, so, then for sure it is time for a carb heat shield.

And it could be other things. These are just a couple of ideas.
