Ok so I am about to weeks from doing the engine swap from a /6 to a 360 in my 1973 Duster.

I have the

Engine
Trans
Tranny
Conversion Motor mounts
Trans line
Throttle Brackets
Radatior
Still need exaust

I know I will have to shorten the drive shaft not sure how much.
I am also going to clean paint and rewire the engine bay while the engine is out.

Can you guys think of anything I am missing this is my Daily Driver so I have to get the car back up as soon asap.

I am guessing your going to the 727 since u mentioned having to cut down the driveshaft? Depending on what the engine and trans came out of you may have to play around with the transmission dip stick a little bit. When it comes time to put on the drivers side header I wish you luck.

I am putting a 904 behind the 360 the /6 in it now has a 904 but I am saying shorten the drive shaft becuse I am putting a 8.75 rear in it.

If you need it up and running quick I'd be tempted to leave the rear axle as is for now, and your old driveshaft should work. After you get the new engine fixed up, then you can swap the axle as another project. I don't know if the emergency brake cables are different between your present axle and an 8 3/4, but you'll have to deal with bleeding the brakes, etc.

piece of cake man, you will be suprised how easy it will be. i had my six out in 2 hours, i had my 318 in and running in 4. if you are using long tube headers, take the filter off and install that side header first. dont set the motor completely down on the mounts until the headers are on. i never touched my steering gear. i had to pop the center link off the pitman arm and tie rod on the drivers side and swing it out of the way, then feed the tie rod through the header. they both go in from the bottom. you'll need to get the car high off the ground.

I didn't do it but I heard of alot of guys taking apart their steering in order to install the headers. Just a thought.

the roll pin in the steering shaft coupler is a ***** to get out but yes if you take the column out it free's up alot of space. i dropped a 318 engine and trans with headers attached into a 67 dart with little problems. i had the steering column out as well as the tortion bars.

FWIW I'm into my engine swap and engine bay respray a bunch of months now. Building the motor was no biggie, that can be a weekend deal. pulling the engine was maybe a day. Putting the new engine in will probably be 1-2 days. Cleaning the engine bay up is taking me forever. I wen't pretty crazy on it getting rid of rust and whatnot. And it has also snowballed into having to do other necessary things. If you have a shotty engine bay this can really throw a wrench in the gears.

Just factor in what prep you need to do in your engine bay. The engine swap part is a cakewalk if you ask me.

Agree with do the rear another weekend... other than the exhaust, the rest should be easy-peasy...

When I was 15, my brother was 18, we swapped Dad's 66 Fury from a 318 to a 383 in a day... He went on a fishing trip, we got up, put his car in the back yard, swapped it out, parked it back out front and didn't tell him... He got in it on Monday morning to go to work, started it up, sounded different, shut it off, looked under the hood, got back in, started it back up and drove to work... 6 months later he said it was fun but made us put the 318 back in it....

Good luck with the swap and keep us all posted.....
