Quick question.. Using stock 340 manifolds, keep, remove, disable damper?? Stock rebuild 20 over nothing fancy, restoring a nice driver 71 demon for my daughter. Thanks
 
Keep it, provided you're using the stock intake. Many aftermarket intakes don't even have a crossover in them, which renders the damper ineffective- it just becomes an obstruction. If you're trying to maintain the stock look in that circumstance, leave it on and just wire it open. With a stock intake or aftermarket with a crossover, leave it intact, especially if using the stock choke. Just make sure all the carbon is cleaned out of the crossover.
 
Cut it out, weld up the holes and never look back. Use the Felpro gaskets that block the crossover in the intake.

If you are big on everything looking stock, weld up the holes on the inside, cut the pieces off your old heat riser and weld or glue them in the holes, but when was the last time you looked at a manifold to check of the heat riser was there?
 
If you need the choke stove working, you'll need to keep the valve functional.

Else, you can do whatever you want.

Disable. You don't need the extra heat at the carb.

electric choke is the way to go!
Electric choke is ONE way to go, but not the only way. He's restoring/stock rebuild; nothing wrong with that.
If you want the most reliable, use a manual choke- it's foolproof as long as there's not a fool on the end of the cable!
