Factory coating on Floor shifter

What was the factory coating used on it? I am trying to find something to coat my shifter with after i get it de-rusted. I have checked out
http://www.eastwood.com/ew-electroplating-system-tin-zinc.html and I don't want something I have to polish when it is done. I was wanting maybe galvanized or that gold colored stuff on Milodon oil pans.

Are you asking about the coating for the shifter bracket? If so it's an autophoretic coating (a cheap dip coating).

The autophoretic coating material was designed to last about 96 hours in salt spray or 240 hours in a humidity cabinet and that was about all.

I suggest you coat the shifter bracket with POR 15 or equivalent.
