Hello All,

I am doing a little research, trying to narrow down what I would like as a project car (decently long list) and I came across this particular option on a 72 Demon/Duster

http://www.hamtramck-historical.com...shipDataBook/1972/72_Dodge_Dart_Demon0016.jpg

I have only seen one of these for sell on eBay before and thought it was pretty cool. I was wondering if anyone would have any information on these? Seeing how this folds back, would there be a speed limit for this while open?

I have also seen the sunroof that pops open like a vent on a-bodies. Was that a special option? I dont recall seeing that as an option in the data books.

I think there was also another sunroof that slid back and revealed the opening, similar to the sunroofs on the 69-70 chargers.

Were these only on the "sport" roof cars (duster, demon, dart sport) or could you also get them on the regular dart and valant roofs?

Thank you for any insight/help

This one is a factory Moonroof/Sunroof, available on 1973-1976 Plymouth Dusters and Dodge Dart Sports (pretty sure you could get it on a Swinger/Scamp too)

This one is an Aftermarket Glass "Pop Out" (Removable) Sunroof, installed in my '74 Duster

The Canvas "Fold Back" roof you're talking about is pretty rare and was only available on 1971-1972 Plymouth Dusters and Dodge Demons. The "V3X" Option. I have the whole roof from a V3X car, somewhere, but the material/canvas is gone.

Thank you for clearing that up. The factory moonroof/sunroof, was that power? or was that manual? and was there a latching mechanism? How did it seal?

For the fold back roof, was there framing for the canvas? how did that one seal? and how did it latch down?

My dad had picked up a 72 Demon back in the mid 90's with the canvas top. I have never seen another one. Here is a pic of it in the garage next to his 69 Bee. Don't mind my cousins in the pic lol.

I also just recently ran in to a 73 Swinger with the crank back solid sunroof at the scrap yard. I hadn't seen a Swinger with a sunroof before either. Have seen quite a few Demons, Dusters, Dart Sports with them.

There was a 1971 Demon in our town in the late 70's that had the canvas roof.
When I first saw it, I thought someone had hacked it up.

Fast foward to the late eighties, this car ended up in a local metal scrap yard.
I bought the 4-speed & 3:91 8 3/4 axle assembly out it for scrap value.

Also, a kid had me install a 4bbl on a '73 318 Duster.
It had a crank factory sunroof in it.
His Dad was a zone rep for Chrysler at the time & his dad had given it to him.

It is manual, the locking mechanism pulls the roof tight. There is a metal frame that fits in a slot on the roof. Looking at my roof pic you can see the slot the locking mechanism fits into. Mine seals fine. I have had my car at 80 mph with the top open:thumbsup:. The top folds back so there is no wind flapping.
