Does anyone know how thick a FEL-PRO 60273 Thermoquad base gasket is? I'm looking for what's available that's close to the OEM thick gaskets. I believe OEM was around 1/4"?

The guy selling the '74 360 carb might be able to help. Looked like to me that there was a base gasket stuck to the bottom of the carb in the pictures. Might ask him if so and if he could measure it.

I could get a rough guess off my car later this weekend, if you need. But it would be a measurement of one still bolted to the intake, not off the car.

There are actually several different thicknesses to these insulator gaskets. .250, .313, and evidently, now .400. If that one really .4, that's the one I would want.

.4" seems like a lot, but at least it suggests that it's not a paper-thin version. I have a couple of used OEM and an aftermarket one that are in the other thickness ranges mentioned. Rock Auto has a deal on them and I didn't want to end up with a thin gasket.

Thank you all! :thumblef:

I guess as many a they have in stock! It's about 1/3 the price of other sources. Just gotta pay shipping. Not sure if their 5% discount code applies to closeouts.

I've seen some gaskets for TQ's and Q-jets that the primary area is too small for the big TQ primary carbs! Hope the Fel-Pro's fit the bigger TQ.

Do those cheapies have the bushings for the bolts so you dont overtighten? Ive bought some closeouts and shipping makes them as expensive as Autozone, and they have stock or 1 day.

I wonder if the TQ specific gaskets have bigger primaries and Q-jet smaller!?

Blowing up the pics of the Fel-Pro's "appear" to show the "bushings". I'll know for sure in about a week & a half.

The thicker the gasket, the better the insulating factor from intake heat. But in the NHRA/IHRA Stock classes, we are allowed to run 2 factory-type gaskets. I guess I'll need to ask around and see if they have a "spec" thickness for them.

On a somewhat similar note, in the early years of IHRA Crate Motor Stock, they were checking the thickness of 1" spacers that were allowed under the carbs. It turned out that some manufacturers sell spacers that are a bit thicker than the advertised 1"!

They used to have the thick "base gasket" and then some thinner "insulators" if I remember right. If you used all three (the spacer, plus a insulator on either side, the total was close to 1/2". But OEM - only used the base gasket with the limiting bushings. They can also be reused if not over tightened.
