Hi everyone

Its been a few years since I played this game, found another project after a 10 year search. My question is are ALL the options on the fender tag?

The reason I ask is because the car I bought has a Rally Dash but no mention of it on the fender tag. It also has scoops but no mention of them either. But little things like hood pins are listed. Also no mention of any gear ratio or anything regarding the differential.

Its a 1970 Swinger 340

It has been painted a number of times and probably changed hands often.

Another question is, is there places on the body that the VIN is stamped on 1970's so I can make sure someone didn't just swap fender and vin #'s. I remember looking at a 1969 and the vin was stamped everywhere. So far I can't find any stampings but with 3 layers of paint I"m not surprised, can you narrow down the search on the car?

Thanks

Brambles

look on the radiator suport. It should be there. You may have to scrape some paint to find it. Some options were gruped together so if one option was checked other things were part of that option. Look around for a build sheet. They are some times under one of the seats but with a 38 year old car might be long gone by now.

Look here on the radiator support. Also here on the trunk lip, driver's side.

Also, since your car is a "package", a 70 Swinger 340, many items came standard (incl. rallye dash), that were optional or n/a in other models.

Further options would be found on the broadcast sheet, which is found inside the car. If the interior is orig., pull the bottom of the back sheet and see if its there. Other locs include under front seat, under carpet, above glovebox insert under dash.

Nice find

Thanks guys

I've checked under the rear seat and didn't find anything, I'll check behind the glovebox liner and under the front seats, and if that doesn't reviel I guess the carpet is going to come out.

So far its

EB7 -medium blue metallic
E55- 340 4bbl
N41-dual exhaust
N42-chrome tips
H6X9 - high quality trim black
D32-heavy duty automatic
B51-power brakes
TX9-black
R11-am radio 2 watt
C16- woodgrain console
V88- transverse strip delete
C55- bucket seats
G11- All tinted windows
Y07- built to canadian specs
J45- hood tie down pins

LM23
and I thing the datecode has another didget its stamped 50G but that doesn't work, but 5G does.

See any errors?

Thanks again

Sounds real nice, B7 is a nice blue on a Dart. Also stripe delete. Usually the date code is on 2nd line from bottom second series from right, and is like - 112 (where 1 is Jan, and 12 is 12th). The month is A in Oct, B in Nov & C in Dec. HTH

UPDATE

I found the Build sheet, it was behind the rear seat back, matches the vin #.

So far I have been unable to find a stamping on the body that shows the vin.

Did they change the locations or stop stamping for 1970, I've scraped all the paint off the rad support and checked the rear trunk lip and nothing

Like I was saying before the 1969 I was looking at had the vin # stamped very clearly all over the body.

I've looked at the rear speaker tray from underneath and couldn't see any stampings either.

I just want to find one body stamped vin # so I know the car hasn't been faked, so far everything else could have been swapped.

Any other locations that I might try??

The VIN on ALL my 70 Darts has never been on the drivers side trunk lip. Always the pass. side about where the buttstripe would run.

Lookey here:

Cool score, Brambles. I also have a bone stock 70 340 Swinger. I'm currently restoring it. Some facts I've learned are:
Not all cars have the VIN stamped on the radiator core support. Mine doesn't.
Mine does have the VIN on the trunk edge under the seal on the passenger side.
The VIN is stamped on the block pan rail passenger side, (2 letters and the sequential 6 digit build number.)
The 6 digit build number should be stamped on the Tranny case(right side for a 727) and on the side of your 8 3/4 third member(741) on the right passenger side.
An excellent number decoder site is mymopar.com mrmopartech at that site can answer ANY QUESTION!
If I can help you in any way, let me know.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look after work on the passenger side. The engine, tranny and Rear diff arn't numbers matching, That I know for sure but all the tags say 340 swinger so far, just want to make sure it wasn't a body swap.

Couldn't wait till after work, I checked the passenger side under the weather stripping and BINGO there was a VIN number and it MATCHES

Thanks a lot guys, I'm a happy guy
