Well tomarrow, weather permitting, I'm off to the welder to get my trunk hinge supports on my 67 Dart Convertible repaired.

In the process I took the trunk lid off and took the hinges off. (Discovered you have to remove 2 screws from the tack strip as they trap the hinge on its post)

Well 53 years of opening and closing has taken its toll on the hinge.

My plan is to have some thin wall tubing welded in the hole to create a reinforced pivot point instead of the thin sheet metal hole.

I found two spacers at ACE hardware, one is solid and fits like a glove. The other is a split type and is significantly looser, but not too loose.

I'll update which spacer worked the best.

I have used tubing to do similar repairs & reinforcing. Nice work!

I know the reason is cost savings but really even if they had pressed a sleeve in the hinge that would have provided MANY more years of service.

My only dilemma is do I go with great fit or loose fit?

All welded up. She went to great lengths to protect the rest of the car.
She even found a support bracket that was never spot welded to the deck and tacked it up. She is going to weld up the hinges themselves later. Went with the great fit.

Painted and ready to install.

Used the silver solid spacers. They fit so we'll. (Bought at ACE Hardware, 1/2" I'd)

Hey Dana, what were your measurements on hinge support brackets. From inner ds to inner ps? I'm looking at the welding job done on our 69 vert and want to verify they're correct. I got approx 38 1/2" BUT not sure if 67 dart 8s same as 69 cuda?
Thanks
Steve

@4spdragtop , It was determined in earlier thread that these parts dont interchange from Dart vert and B'cuda vert. Top of quarters and dutchman panel lower/flatter on the Dart. Pic above shows it pretty well. I honestly dont recall if that spring length measurement was same or not. I wouldn't bet on it.

Thanks Ben, I guess Dana has me on ignore:poke:
I am not looking to swap/interchange anything, I wanted to verify measurements.
I'll start another thread.

Sorry about that steve I never got a notification that any posts were made in this post.

I'll get you the mearurement but I can say with 100 percent certainty that the Barracuda brackets are different than the dart. I'll find photos and post.

38 11/16"

Thanks Dana, looks like the body shop did the ol' switcheroo on me with the bars. Add that to the list.
Thanks again.

I don't think the Barracuda bars are the same as dart. Dart go into plastic glided, barracuda go into the hinge itself
