Hey FABO, I got a 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger and it's getting kind of tedious to drive around without knowing the amount of gas in my gas tank haha....
The fuel gauge is set up and we got it grounded and everything and the gauge still doesn't work! :mumum: My dad and I now think it is the float in the tank. Does anybody know how to fix the float to make our gas gauge work :D or do we need to replace everything?

Thanks!

you can buy just the float, but unless you have replaced the sending unit recently you are probably better off to replace the whole thing. go here: http://www.vansauto.com/sending2.html I would go with the 3/8 one it is only 50 bucks. I have bought a bunch of stuff from these guys they are great to deal with..

I'm glad to hear the good feedback on vansauto. I'm waiting on a bunch of fuel stuff from em right now. The only thing with their sending unit for a 3/8 fuel line is it does have a return. I know my original 7/16 (73 Dart Sport 340) did not have a return. I figure on moving to fi eventually so it was no problem for me. I figured even if I don't use it, I can cap it off.

I used the sender w/ 3/8" exit and 1/4" return, cost $45 on ebay (A-1 Auto or such). Your original was 5/16", not 7/16". Two tips:

1. Re-use your original lock ring. The new ones aren't thick enough and are loose. If you do use it, try bending the ears more and/or using 2 rubber gaskets.

2. With a Walbro EFI pump, I measure 9 psi return pressure thru the 1/4" return tube, which is excessive. The Holley Projection manual specs <4 psi or such. That is using the factory 5/16" tube for return. I suggest flaring the return tube on both ends to lower the pressure drop.

Have you shorted the sender wire to ground or otherwise seen the gauge work at all ?
Do the other ( temp and oil ) gauges work ?
