Hey guys....... I have a '72 Demon with a small block and full dual flowmasters dumping out the back.......3.55 Posi, so it winds a bit in 3rd gear.......when you're cruisin, it's just plain TOO LOUD.........What mufflers would I weld in to tone it down for real driving comfort, but still have a nice sounding (more like stock, but nice) Mopar?

AND.......... My '67 Cuda up in NY is in desperate need of a set of duals......I'd like to weld it up myself, but can't locate any "downpipes" that will work with the stock manifolds and donuts........Don't want headers...... want it with the manifolds............it's a survivor, and I just want it to breathe better and "sound off" nicely for it's later years of cruisin. Any help finding some downpipes?.....I can make some if I have to, BUT if they're out there, it would save a whole lot of time and monkeying..........1967 -273 with P/S and auto.........

Any help appreciated.

I am running Flowmaster 50 Series Delta flows, an x-pipe and 2.5" pipes on a hot 360 with headers. Nice sound no interior resonance and you can carry on a conversation at hi-way speeds. It still barks it's presence at WOT throttle. I am very happy with the set up.

If the 273 is a Hi-Po motor (4bbl) don't crap it up with duals, put the factory 2.5 inch pipes back on it with the oe small flow through muffler and the oe rear resonator with the chrome exhaust tip attached. It breathes real nice and produces a great sound, the only issue is its a bit pricey - $750.00 for the complete system Y-Pipe back. You can check it out at Accurate LTD Exhaust systems at www.accurateltd.com enter the site and click the tab at the top right "complete systems" then go to A-bodies. I have a 67 Hi-po that somebody (long ago) put a 1 7/8 system on thats now rotted out (I'm saving my pennies) I did hear the OE system and it sounds pretty good.

I have the Flowmaster 50`s on my 68 Barracuda 440-6 with 11-1 comp/ratio through 2.5" pipes and I`m less than pleased with the drone it creates in that 2500 rpm range. Sounds bad as HELL when you open it up but really sucks for cruising. You cannot carry on a normal conversation. I`ve heard the Flowmaster 70`s are considerably quieter but have had no first hand experience with them. There are several restoration places that sell those head pipes but I believe they`re mostly all supplied by Accurate Exhaust, so you might go right to the source. Good luck, HTH.

Do the flowmasters have a stamping on them that denotes what "number" or model they are? I'm not up to speed on the flowmasters......wasn't aware that they came in different models.................how do I know which is which when I'm under the car?

I don't believe you can tell by a stamping number (they have a label that burns off) what series they are. You will need to get the exterior dimensions and compare to the specs on their web page. The Delta Flow versions were made specifically to kill the interior resonance. You may be able to tell by seeing a distoration in the metal on the output end of 2 or 3 Cheverons ( <<< )pointed toward the input end.

I took the car to the muffler shop the 23rd and had the Delta Flow 50`s removed and replaced with a factory style 71 Imperial muffler. I love it!!! So much quieter on the inside, (my car is fully insulated w/H-pipe). She has a real mellow growl at idle (vintage like)but still roars when you gas her. Anybody looking for a set of DeltaFlow-50`s? For sale real cheap, the guy just burned them off, LOL!

Measure the 273 Manifold pipes, they are likely 1 7/8" so you will need to space them up to 2.25".

Midas in Albany did a nice job for me, but, it was not as cheap as homemade,
by a long shot.

I am using Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers under my Valiant, and the interior resonance was annoying to my G/F; I added sound deadenrr under the carpet, and especially under the rear seat. From the factory there was NO
padding/carpet of any kind under the rear seat.

For a cheap and decent sounding muffler, try Thrush Turbo,
$19.99 each at Advance Auto parts/Parts America; I just put one under my
beater work Van, to replace a too loud Flowmaster copy,
it still sounds nice, but not as annoying.

The local Advance Auto has the Thrush Turbo mufflers in the back room.
Maremont makes a nice Turbo muffler too;

Maremont 16804 MAR TURBO II MUFFLER, Our Price: $24.99

For sound deadner stuff, try this stuff.

Well, after checking out that article, I think I'll be running with the RAAM Audio stuff. It appears to be the best bang for the buck.

RAAMaudio

I think I am also going to use their Ensolite padding instead of jute when I do the carpeting.

personally, I like it loud, got Flowmaster 40s on mine, but yes, it realy droans and vibrates the car when you bring the RPMs down. They are loud. That is a fact, but I dont think I can change them to a quiter set up....I'd probably not like it...for myself anyways.....the passenger might appreciate it though.

I have the Flomaster 40's and like em too, with the x-pipe it sounds more nasal. That with the noisy fuel pump and I can't hear my wife complain when I get it sideways... no I'm just kidding honey. :love4:

I have 2 chamber Flowmasters on my car. If I cruise slowly in 2nd. gear I can set off EVERY car alarm I drive past

Hay, guys. I got Flowmasters on the Duster. They are the 40 series with
an X-pipe. The only complaint with my system is a drone or vibrating at
about 35-40 mph. At highway speeds it is real quiet in the car. I have the
factory sound deading still in the car. I don't think it's that bad. Did I do
something wrong to have it that quiet. It did get a little more of a drone
after I put the X pipe on. The slight noise at 35- 40 I can live with.
