Thanks for looking. I'm rebuilding my first AVS and it's going real well except 1 thing. 1970 Duster 340 automatic N95 car, carb #4937.
Factory Service Manual page 14-54 refers to a "discharge check needle".
The diagram from the carb kit calls it a "pump discharge ball or needle".
I'm saying my carb didn't have one. I did a lengthy cleaning process on everything so I suppose it may have fallen out of the body at some point but I was real careful and I never saw anything.
Is it possible that this carb did not require this part or perhaps it's something that can be left out, or does anyone have one?
History of the carb is unknown but it looked like nobody's ever been into it before. Thanks

I would say required it keeps the fuel from flowing back into the bowl for the accelerator pump shot w/o it could cause stumble on acceleration. A new ball should be part of any rebuild kit.

Exactly, there should be a ball, or short brass rod with a point on one side, in the small parts bag.

I rebuilt several AVS and AFB carbs in the 80's when I was doing it full time and they all had either a ball or needle. Like Rocky said it's required to keep the fuel from flowing back into the bowl. I have a butter bowl of small parts so if you need a needle or ball just PM me.
