I opened up my trans to see if I needed to order a 4 pinion front planet gears and noticed the front band was solid...is that the factory band? It looked kinda redisn. The rear seal has been replaced so I'm thinking this trans has been gone through before.

Solid bands are out there, and as stated above if it looks good use it.
The solid front band is considered a performance part, so you may be right about it being built before.

All the older trans. had solid bands. I don't remember when they started using flex bands but I'm sure it wasn't until the 70's.
...............flex band came in 71, as well as the wide bushing for the front pump..............kim.......
