I have a slight shimmer in the front end I can feel in the steering wheel whenever I apply the brakes. I have disc on the front and drum on the back in a '74 Duster. Can any one give me some direction of where to look? This is the only time I notice the shimmer. Thanks again guys !!!!

The front brake rotors are out of round, or warped. If it isn't too bad you can have them cut on a brake lathe to restore them true. Any gas station should be able to help you out. Very common problem with disc brakes.

If not the rotors, check your strut rods and make sure the nuts are tight.

ALSO Could be the Wheel Bearings are drying out and need repacked.Giving it a slight shimmer..But The Rotors seem More the Obvious problem..They more than likely neen turned.Check that you dont have a Leaking and/or Sticking Caliper too..That will cause the shimmy AND warping of the rotor.

Not to mention low-quality/super-hard or long-lasting brake pads, or extended periods of hard braking (especially with our old unvented iron rotors). Make sure the pads you use are a good quality brand that isn't the "lifetime lasting" kind.

Make sure you put some good rotors on ifyou change them the old ones on my 98 didn't even warp they cracked in a ton of places.
