I am still trying to track down why my hot rod 340 pulls hard to 5400 rpm then starts to pop in collecters. Put a fuel pressure gauge on it starts out at 8-9 pds. then slowly drops to about 3-4 pds. as it warms up, Is this normal has a carter strip pump that should put 7-8 pds.out. Any input would be helpful. Thanks Kevin.

What type of fuel pressure guage do you have. The cheaper ones especially liquid filled are famous for being inaccurate once any type of heat gets around them.

oldschool is correct in regards to the the cheap liquid filled fuel pressure gauges. Sounds more like valve float to me.

It is the cheapo liquid filled from one of the performance catalogs the pump is new.I hope not valve float as the motor is supposed to have a complete hughes valve train.well what do you think I should try first gauge or pump re-adjust valves? Thanks Kevin.

I'd try another fuel pressure guage first, I had a high flo mechanical that was starting at 10 psi cold and dropping to 7 hot which is normal when you consider what the spring against the pump diaphragm does, tension wise, as it warms up. My problem was to much pressure and needed a regulator, now it's 6.5 psi cold or hot. Even though your pump is new it might not be good. Have you checked your fuel filters also.

You know I think alot of those catalog companies get rid of there returns by resending them on internet sales.Everything on engine has less than 500 miles!~ I will try gauge and pump next! Thanks Kevin.

69 dart original /6 we changed fuel line to 3/8 and put on a new carter strip mech pump when engine installed has mighty demon 650 carb. Kevin.
