Hi everyone I have a 74 dodge dart sport 360 bought a new fuel tank and it matches the original but it wants to be close to the frame rail on the passenger side and like 4to 5 inches away from the rail on the driver's side it stays like a 1/2 in. From the shock on passenger side and it is like 3 in. from the driver side any advice or should I use a bfh lol

Does your filler neck line up properly? I just put a new tank in my 75 Dart Sport, no problems, but I can't say I checked clearance to the frame rails. I know there were some different tanks, but IIRC they were smaller (14 gals vs common 16 gals) on some earlier models.

No the tank was to far to the passenger side for the filler neck to line up and this is a 16 gal

Whether you had a /6, 318 or 360 the gas tank, straps and filler tube were all the same.

Just took these of my newly installed tank, it is close to the right side, but it follows the trunk floor bulge tightly, as it should. Have not put the filler neck in yet as I just got the grommet today, probably put it in tonight or tomorrow.

But ur strap is in the wrong place. Looks like the tank needs To go over quite a bit. U can see the tub was replaced. So it’s in the wrong spot. There in lies ur problem. Kim

I'm not the original poster, I posted these to show the position of my tank, thus far I don't have any issues with it, I know the tire well was replaced, I did it a few weeks ago, and it is in the correct position.

Yes it appears that you have the straps in the wrong place. They fit into the groove on each side- look at pics of other A-body's. I use the Spectra. I believed it was # cr11c. Fit really nice

Well I’m confused now. Here is some pics of my factory 74 duster 360, 4bbl and dual exhaust. The rear section of the drivers side tail pipe was changed by me because the resonator plugged off and rusted out. This is a 41,000 mile car. The straps are not in the grooves either. Kim

Same tank I ordered, straps are mounted in the only place they can be, front and rear mounts are fixed location. As long as it works, I'm fine with it, I don't recall where the straps fit n any of my other Darts, not that it matters since it can't go anywhere anyway.

Thank you very much that is exactly how mine looks and the straps for whatever reason dont fit in the grooves either I'm wondering if my new tank isn't a universal tank it 105.00

Just finished my 73 Sport. Replaced the tank with a new one. Straps are in the correct location, tank is centered with the spare tire well. The passenger side is about an inch closer to the frame well than the driver side. Caused a small issue with the 2.5 exhaust pipes but not too bad. But it was definitely not centered between the rails, but not as extreme as the photos here.

Can you post a picture of the positioning of your tank?
Sorry it took me so long for pictures I got the tank in last night again the only way it w

I got the tank back in last night here are some pictures this is the only way it will fit and the straps do not line up with the grooves the tank cannot go any closerto the driver's side because of the tub this must be how it is
