Full charge

My 71 Demon is charging erratically, sometimes as it should and other times it charges all that it can(+40)-boiling the battery and pissing me off. It is a /6 w/ electric ignition. I have replaced the regulator and checked all the wired for a ground somewhere and found nothing. What's the deal? Any help/advice is needed.

Quick thought.. Check the electrical connector at the back of the head and make sure there's good connections in there.

This is probably a stupid question but was the regulator new and whats the mopar P/N on it. As far as I know the Alternator has to be excited before it generates voltage otherwise it does nothing.
