Any differance in a 8, 2.5L non turbo and a 89 2.5 Turbo 2 long block ? I was offered a K car with a good motor as a parts car.
Adam,
The '89 Turbo 2 had as std. equiptment:
Steel crank
Steel rods
Mahle pistons
Full floating wristpins
Roller cam
Cross drilled block for better cooling
Intercooler
12.5 pounds of boost (std.)
The 2.5's had:
Cast cranks (good for 300 h.p.)
Steel rods
(Not sure about the pistons)
The '89 Turbo 2 was a 2.2 and not a 2.5
The 2.5 was only used in the non intercooled turbo versions. The 2.5's
had higher torque figures. I have one of these in my '89 Turbo Mini Van
with 11.5 pounds of boost. With the 3 speed A-413 Torqueflite tranny and
3.02:1 final drive ratio (no lock up converter and no overdrive), it will smoke the tires the full 1/8 th mile at the local dragstrip.
K cars make excellent sleepers! Gary Donovan at
www.thedodgegarage.com
has a K car that runs 10.40's at 135 mph and change. Met him in 2003
at the Nat's and saw him put down the numbers.
