I just started my basically stock 318 yesterday that i rebuilt almost 2 years ago (it took me a while to find a car to stick it in to). this morning i went out and decided to look at the oil on the dip stick just to see how the oil looked, and it had a strong smell of gas. I drained the oil and sure enough there is a half a quart or so of gas sitting on top of the oil. i pulled my new fuel pump and there is definatley oil that has been washed away from the pump arm. im guessng the fuel pump is the problem. any other things i should check?

Every one ive ever had has at one time or other, dumped gas in the oil.The diaphram wears out,or rots i guess.Either way,i run electirc fuel pumps on all my cars now.

i thought about gas going past the rings. But a quart seems like alot to be washing past the rings and its only ran for like a minute total kind of a test run.lol i dont have a radiator.

Get a radiator in that car, change the fuel pump there cheap enough, change the oil ,run it for little while, dump the oil and check it,you might need to change and dump it a few times to get all the gas out of the system, then go from there..hopefully its just a failed fuel pump, like someone else stated thats one of the reasons a lot of guys run only electric pumps..

I would guess it is the fuel pump. I had a new (rebuilt autozone) do the same thing just after a couple months use!

I had a carb set and ran fine, I would shut it off and it would let gas run out of the carb and into the motor.:clock:

My pennies worth.8)
