So the dude I bought my Scamp from back in the Fall '11 included a bunch of parts - some new. A gas tank new in the box 2009 date from Tamraz's parts discount. The tank is the "made in Canada" type which I thought was the same as the Quanta Products...now I'm not sure. I figured I would change the tank, the current one had a little rust and a couple dents. Also, I was installing a new sending unit, and the associated seals for the tank.

First off, it was a total ***** to line up the filler tube. The filler neck to trunk seal from Mega Parts is a piece of ****. There is a unacceptable gap once the seal is installed with the 5 screws tightened. When I unstalled the tank with the new J bolts ($15 from Quanta and don't even include the 2 fuckin' nuts) the rear of the tank was scraping against my left rear shock, WTF? There are bends in the seam from the factory - but not where it rides close as hell to the shock...

Next, the sending unit I bought from Summit contains a lock ring (super thin and I can't believe how it would seal) and rubber "o" seal. Well, I tried the other lock ring that came with the Tamraz's tank, also thin and could be tightened to the maximum by hand EASILY - again, don't know how that would have sealed. So, I re-used the original lock ring which created a TIGHT seal. Oh yeah, I like to acquire tools as often as I can so I also bought a "lock ring wrench" from Mega parts - total piece of **** - don't waste your money. It would not fit ANY of the three lock rings I had - another Taiwan **** tool that's going back to Mega parts tomorrow. Use a hammer and screwdriver.

Sorry for the long rant/post, it was just one of those days......:banghead::banghead::banghead:

this maybe irrelevent since the parts you have are suppost to fit, but the best you can get in canadian tanks are spectra preminum, rock auto sells them I believe.

use a spectra fuel gauge as well and the FACTORY locking ring and gasket, may sound stupid but the aftermarket ones never work properly

its very unfortunate that all aftermarket parts don't have to go though quality testing but I guess were even lucky to be able to buy parts for our cars being as old as they are

Spectra Premium is on the box for the gas tank from Tamraz's......

The straps do not even fit in a groove and at one point along the strap, there is a 1" space with no contant with the tank, like you could slide something easily between the tank and strap.

The contours of the spectra tank are completely different on the underside compared a factory unit.

Just thinking out loud here...are all a-body tanks the same? Maybe that tank isn't correct for your Valiant? The one I got from Tamraz fit well.

According to their website, this model tank should fit the Scamp.
I'll be able to make it work, just had a lot of frustration with this and needed to vent. Ugh......

The "too small" sender lock ring is a common problem. You would think somebody making them would check the fit, but maybe they are generic for GM and Ford too. Most re-use the factory ring, or use 2 gaskets.
