Gas tank vent

Put the new tank in the 'Cuda today. There is a vent tube coming out next to the gas tube. Also there is a vent line on the filler tube. Does the filler tube vent attach to the tank vent?

The reason I'm asking is because the car had no tank or filler tube when I bought it, so I never took it apart to remember stuff like that.

The vent from the tank is vented to the atmosphere and the vent tube from
the fill tube goes thru the rubber seal sealing the fill tube to the body.

Some one posted the other day on a similar question that they put a fuel filter
on the tank vent to keep out critters. I'll have to give that a try.
