Gear-set Interchange?

For those smarter than me......
Will gears for a "742" case fit an earlier style "741" case? I have a 8 3/4 from a '62 Fury, and I know it has tapered axles. I'm hoping "742"s will work, because that 2.76(?) ratio is out the roof!!

No they are different sized gears made especially for that carrier.

Thanks for the reply. Now for the next question....
Can I fing gear sets for the 741 rear, or is it even worth it?
Would it be cheaper to just buy an old 8 1/4 somewhere?

I think you can buy 355s and 373 for the 741 case but thats about it.

3.73 gears?!?! Yeah!!......Know where I could find some of these???
Or would someone have a A-body 8 1/4 laying around?

Actually I just took apart a rearend I got from pick-n-pull last weekend. It has a 741 case. When I took the centerchunk out, I discovered it has 3.91 gears. I'll probably end up selling the centerchunk once I get my other gearset.

Randy's Ring and Pinion has both 3.55 and 3.91 sets for the 741.

I have a factory set of 3.54s in an old style case from a 58 fury........$150.00.....KIM

Talk to Cass at Doctor Diff at 406 883 4772 he has 3.55 and 3.73 gears for the 741 case.
