my 70 340 dart leaves about a tablespoon or two of oil on top of the intake manfold. wheres this coming from? i did put new gaskets on the valve covers (cork) and didn't notice it for a while but that may not have anything to do with it. i'm learning as i go so i hope i don't sound stupid but is there a gasket on the distributor. oil on the intake i guess can only come from the valve covers or the dist if theres a gasket there. is this a simple repair. thanks

is it in the little sunk area under the intake attaching bolt(s)? My guess is it's coming from the bolts, not the valve covers (unless you missed when you installed the new ones..). Make sure your PCV is working properly. You can remove the bolts, degrease them, and try using the teflon thread sealer or black or grey silicone on the threads. Dont use aerosol sprays to clean the threads, or a tap, as this will just force junk into the engine. This should slo it down enough that it doesnt make mess every time.
