Just for fun. So, I used to have a lot of storage space and when something failed, I often tossed it under the bench. Not so much anymore, and I have been going through stuff that I haven't touched in 40 years.

Note the differential pinion shaft ripping a new asshole in the carrier following putting slicks on this car and it hooking up for the first time. I was glad to get this out before it scattered. Anyway, for those of you inclined, let's see pics of your failed parts; just for fun.

I have a good one. Stock 318 cast crank gave up the ghost.

Yeah but it didn't come apart until you took it apart, did it? It was still running but knockin. I had a friend that had a 307 Chevy that did that. It knocked for like three years until we finally pulled it down and it was broken in a very similar spot. Three years he drove it like that. It never quit until we parked it to fix it.

Didn’t know I had a cracked cylinder in my original 1967 273. Coolant leaked into the oil, driving 75 mph on the highway, smoked the main journals and wound up breaking the #3 main off the block when it broke the crank.

No, it was locked up. It was like that when I got the car so dont know how it happened. Original motor from my 74 barracuda.

Thank you all for playing, I'm sure there are many more out there except for you neat freaks that clean as you go. I particularly like your crank and block Mopardude62.

I must confess it's a little bit of rigged game, as I have more broken stuff, but to balance things out, in actuality I'm probably too lazy to dig much of it out to photo.

Below is my last 383 race engine, after almost 10 years of good luck, scheduled tear downs and refurbishing, this assembly finally went in '87.

Got off the freeway doing 65 +

Turned left and was going 45 when all of a sudden the rear locked up.

WTF....

Rear of truck started to pass the front with a telephone pole in its sights.

Counter steered and the rear started to roll again.

Coasted into a gas station and stopped.

Had no idea what happened, no oil dripping, no signs of damage. so I started it up and put it into reverse and BANG.

The rear cover now had a huge hole and dumped the oil out on the ground.

Turns out the pinion shaft came out as it was spinning and locked the rear solid, putting it in reverse spun it the other way and smacked the pan.

1970 F250 camper special, dana 60 full floating rear end.

78 Dodge dually: Going down country roads, and hear a noise. Start looking in the mirrors, right rear axle come almost out of the housing, running in the ditch. Bearing went out of it, causing the axle to snap the end of the housing off.

74 Dodge 3/4 ton. Lost the caps off the u joint on the rear of the driveshaft. Left the tool box at home. Had a spare u joint in the glove box. Took the caps off the spare, hammered them in as far as possible. Wrapped them in duct tape so we wouldn't lose them, and drove to a friends house.

Recent? Not mine ford escape. Big box store mechanic told owner it should make it home. Just take it easy.

Back in the 80’s guy had his 75 318 bored out to 360. Ran about a week. I own the car now, thats how he left it.

there is your one broken forged crank right there for those who never seen one.
My buddy broke a camshaft in half in a Honda, oil issue up top and seized the back of the camshaft and the timing belt half kept going. I did the same in my (1st) Mazda pickup with its chain.

When replacing brake pads, on chevy 3/4 tons-remember to replace the little plugs covering guide pins. They dont move freely for very long in the manitoba winters with salt on the highways.
