Well it is about darn time! I have been hammering away at my 64 Dart for about 9 months straight. Hell it was still only 22 two mornings ago. WY. is tuff even in late spring! But yeah to the 70's today. The 416 stroker is done, the fully tricked out 727 is almost back togther. I stuffed a set of 3.91 posi gears in the 8 3/4. And finally the rims and tires are shipping from Nostalgia.. yeah! :icescrea: Well 4 months later no thanks to Cragar delays and BS etc... GOD I hate when people lie to you :salute:
I completely pulled every single part out of the entire front end in the past 3 weeks. Had the power steering box over hauled with a firmer spool and had the pump rebuilt too. It was working fine but thought after 43+ years it was time for a reseal and new parts where needed. Hell the dart even still has the factory starter and I only put brushes it in once 20 years ago. Funny but the car is so lite in the front end I can pick it up off of the stands that are under the front door frame rails, so I stuffed a 2nd set of stands under the rear axle tubs and left the rear frame stands in place.
I have a set of the .890 t-bars going back in and a complete early A body 70 Dart 4 piston disc setup. So I decided since a good friend of mine that makes custom rods, T- buckets from scratch etc and recalled he has a powder coating system.
Well say no more. I had him do the lower controll arms and spindles and wow. Man do they look nice. I was going to do a color at 1st. I seen a lot of the old trucks and rods he does and has matched the frame, suspension parts a lot of times to the car color like candy apple red etc. Anyway I went high gloss black. They all came out so good, so after we modifed the trans cross member for the exhaust we coated it too, man it is sharp. He has a laser cutter and it looks factory.
So anyway most of the rest of the front end parts got coated too. Even did the lower crank pully, water pump pulley Alt and PS brackets, battery tray and a few misc other brackets etc. Gotta do the horns May Mopar engine red just to stand out some..
Well here it is Sunday night and after dinner had a beer or 4 and thought, DAM 4 bolts and why not powder coat the K-Frame. So in less than 60 secs with the impact pulled it out too.
Any how, soon as the parts get back I will stuff the entire front end with all the new parts etc back in. Even add the new front sway bar too. Then I will be ready for the trans and engine. Maybe I will hear it fire late summer I hope??? :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
I will post some pics of the parts before it goes back in.
OH question, while I got everything out I have been detailing the engine compartment, or should I say sanding and cleaning. Car is going to be gloss jet black again. So what color and or material are most you guys doing in the engine copartment? Not sure if I want black here too, seems I got a lot of black on this litle car. Any pics would be nice to see too of other rides.
thanks!
