Just bought 72 duster with a 4 speed and 8 3/4 posi rear.
Just a 318 but built to rev.
Great to drive.

push the clutch all the way to the floor and bam!!! it dont come back?
push it just far enough to work safty start and it is fine, but any further and bam, got to pull it back.
It is like it is camming over.
Whats is going on???

Check for mechanical bind. Have another person work the clutch while you watch the movement of the components. (I had a similar problem when I changed my exhaust. The clutch fork would drag on the exhaust and sometimes get hung up).

Some clutches recommend the removal of the "Over Center" spring. This is located under the dash. It can be a ***** to remove.

Thanks guys.
dont think it is a bind? it feels smooth as silk then bam!!! it stays, take your toe and pull it up and it shoots back,
This is dangerous and my wife is beggin to drive this 4 speed.
she is a motor headed frreak and is mad because I said no!!

Does anybody have a schematic or something.
the overspring deel seems like it might be the deal.

Is it like a secondary type spring?

Thank you Matthon
what I was looking for.
I will try this

Allso may need to ajust the clutch free play. You want about an inch of free play at the peddle.

Allos check the Z bar where it goes through the inner fender. The back up plate is just tacked on and some times will pull loose and put the Z bar on a bad angle.

Sounds like my clutch peddle when I put in a Centerforce dual friction clutch.I removed the overcenter spring and it works fine now.I had to jam about 10 washers in it,then pop it off(it was a real biotch to do)some guys say it,s easy?Ya O.K!LOL!

Yup it most likely has some form of replacement "diaphram" pressure plate. remove the over center spring as outlined above and that should fix it.

Took the overspring out today and runs like a top now.

Thanks guys

The tires that came on the car are Crap!!!!
I have wore the back ons out in just two days!!!!

LOL
