so we were on out date night, against her will i had swong by a furniture store and so we got to the restaurant a little later then i hoped
i got a great parking spot and as i pulled up, i happened to see a gentleman in a wheel chair move down the side walk (just situational awareness, i didnt think nothing off it)
so i got out, and walked around the car to open her door when i heard a noise like something falling
i immediately ran over to find the gentleman in the wheelchair had missed the ramp on the sidewalk and simply fallen of
when i got there he was on the ground, on his face and there where 5 people around him (his wife, the couple who had been out to dinner with them, and a couple just walking by who had witnessed him falling)
i tried to assess the situation but was pretty much out of my depth, and quite frankly, so was everyone else and we were pretty much lost

then my wife showed up, she had seen me run off and figured i might need some help

she took one look at the situation and owned it
she quickly introduced herself and took control
got the gentleman rolled over on his back, and elevated his legs (i guess that helps stabilize his blood pressure)
then she dressed his wounds, he had severe rips on his hand and pretty much scalped himself
i got volunteered to find something that would work as bandages, so i run into the pizzashop and got some heavy duty shop rags
then (sorry, this is kinda gruesome) she told me to make sure i properly align the skin before applying bandages and pressure
while i held his right arm, she told me to help her keep pressure on the headwound (where she had aligned the skin flaps as much as possible

almost forgot, in the meantime she had given the wife the third degree on the medications this gentleman was on (by the way, he was 78 years old)
the entire time she was also keeping him informed on what we were doing, what was going on, and how the situation was progressing

then, what was perhaps the most impressive, is when the first responders arrived (two fireman) she basically briefed them, and got out of their way

All that is what a typical First Responder should do.

Training kicks in when the pupil is responsive. (inside joke there, she will get it)

forgot to mention this, as i was coming out of the pizza shop with the rags, she had found a bit of downtime, so to say, and she was praying over him, out loud, on the sidewalk, up to her elbows in blood and unashamed

Your wife deserves an extra special date night.

My neighbor across the street fell one time, she said her cat got under her feet, she was not bleeding but in pain from the fall.
Her daughter was in panic mode, a couple of girls driving down the street pulled over and tried to help, but were also clue less.

I seen her fall, and went over to help, they were tugging on her in all the wrong ways, and hurting her more.

I told them to stop, I had lifted my grandmother over 100 times when she fell, all we need to do is get her sitting up.

After that, I just reached under her arms from her backside and picked her up, she later told me that it did not hurt her at all, I helped her daughter get her up the couple of stairs, into the house while thanking the girls that stopped, and got her to a chair.

Me and my dad took care of my grandmother, and it was rough, but there is no way we were putting her in a nursing home, just simple things, even a small distraction would make her fall.

I was on the first date with my now wife, and told her one time I had to go home to check on my grandmother, at xxxx time.
But my later to be wife told me later, she thought I did not like her and I was full of crap, and wanted out of the date, until she actually found out I was telling her the truth.

Been a few years now, but when we first met, she was working at a nursing home as a CNA...needless to say her mom now lives with us

Though she is not a trained first responder, she is a medical professional, and I think having someone there who was confident and took charge did just as much to mitigate the damages as the medical help she provided

Just knowing what to do makes a big difference.
I am no way a first responder, but knew how to pick the neighbor lady up.

Nice! My wife is also in the field and has stumbled apon vehicle accidents and other things where she does the same. Amazing to see isn’t it!
