Guys with Crane Cams Book- Need Help

friends that have the old crane cams book, I need your help to determine what valve springs they recommend for crane cam 150062

I believe I may have found the spring part number but looking for some confirmation- valve spring 99835

I’m doing up a set of SM heads so need to find the specs so I can seek out a spring that will work for my cam.

Also, what engine is it for? The coldest I found is part number 150052 for an LA, which is a 272 energizer hydraulic flat tappet.
Okay, I found 150062, 282 Energizer for an LA small block.
The correct spring for that is Crane
99835-16. I’ll get spring specs so you can cross reference it in case you’re modifying your installed height/valve legnth/etc.

Nice, thank you, that’s the part number I found as well just wasn’t sure on the specs as I couldn’t find a lot of details.

According to the Wallace spring calculator if the installed height is set at 1.60, the spring pressure at .480 lift will be 291 pounds

That is very high spring pressure for that size FT cam, not good for lobe/lifter life.
Might want to look at the Crower #68404.

Yeah that was my initial reaction too seems like over kill for a hydraulic flat tappet cam. I’m gonna have to find springs to work with 1.6 rockers and 1.8” installed height cuz I’m using Eddy rpm heads/speed masters same thing. Just trying to get my base line down and then see if I can get close.

The seat pressure comes up to a 123 @ 1.80, but you may could use some + .050 height valve locks to come in at 113 @ 1.85.

If you don’t care to change retainers and locks and spend a little extra, this set would play nicely with that camshaft. The smaller retainer diameter provides more clearance for aftermarket rocker arms, too.

Retainers and locks for 11/32 valves. The retainers are for any valve stem diameter, you’ll have to use different locks if using something other than 11/32 valve stems.

Been awhile since I’ve played with hydraulic cams but what type of open and closed spring pressure would you guys like with this 150062 hydraulic Crane cam
