The 426 version of the Hemi is 50 years this year.

The original "Chrysler hemi" was introduced in 1951 under the Chrysler badge. It displaced 331 cubic inches. Later, in 1953 Dodge's first hemi was 241 cubes. and finally, in 1952 De Soto division went to Hemi engines with their first one being 276 ci.

During the life span of the "Early Hemi":
De Soto had 5 iterations of the hemi the 276" from 1952-54, the 291" in 1955, the 330" in 1956, and the 341" and 345" Hemis both in 1957.

Dodge also had 5 hemi sizes: 241 in 1953-55, 260" in 1955, 270" in 1955, and the 325" in 1957-58.

Chrysler had four different size Hemis: 301" in 1955, 331" 1951-56, 345"-1956-57, and the 392 1957-58.

Plymouth was never given a Hemi head engine in the 1950's.
