Has anybody tried this - Ammeter?

Just curious if anyone had tried this. My red wire is melted, the amp gauge is brown (white face overlayed), the light bulb socket is melted and the circuit board is discolored.

I have a donor cluster for parts, and I'm looking to redo the wiring and seal the windsheild to keep any water from coming in.

That wiring from madelectric worked for me. I just added a voltmeter.
