I have to eliminate my clutch fan because there a little over 2" between the front of the water and the radiator. My friend gave me a large electric fan but same issue unless I mount it to the front and use washers to space the hood latch out some. My car is a 67 Valiant with a 73 340 with a factory style 70-2 radiator.

Get the rubber flaps off a late model shroud at the yard, cut holes, and install some of them. Will make that a much more effective piece.

Did you set yours as pullers or pushers? How thick is the rubber?

I had mine as pullers. I ended up going back to my mechanical fan. My space was tight but not as tight as yours.

The rubber is very thin. As you drive the air coming thru the radiator will push it open even at very slow speeds.

I'd be concerned about the quality of the fans. There are also higher CFM set ups out there for not all that much more money. The dual fan set up from a Contour is capable of over 3000 cfm, and fits a 26" radiator very well. You can get the whole set up for around $130 new, Dorman 620-104. Or find one at the local yard for half that off a '95-2000 Contour or Mystique. I spent a lot more to wire it, but I also set it up with a digital, programmable controller.

I'm trying to eliminate anything that robs hp. I can't fire up my fresh motor until I'm sure I have a reliable cooling system. My radiator fin area is 19x17 I think.

Yep you don't have a lot of options. I also had a 22"radiator. You don't have to add the rubber flaps. You can just cut holes or slits in the place of them. You should be fine then.

Why did you go to a mechanical fan from having the electric set up?

Mostly just because I didnt feel like i had a good set up going. I had twin 10" Perma-Cool fans that they claim move over 400 some cfm. They sure did move a lot of air, but I wasn't moving enough they the radiator. If it was cool out, it wasn't a issue. On the warmer days I couldn't get my temp below 210*. I had the room for the mechanical after I made a clutch change and I also added a shroud. Car very rarely gets to 200* now.

I still have the entire setup, I may play with it again someday.
