Head Question

Can anyone tell me if any of the bolts attaching exhaust manifold or header to head go into water jacket areas? Thanks Mike

On LA engines only the end ones do.

Heres why I ask. I just bolted on a set of 302 heads and on to those I bolted a set of Spitfire headers with no gaskets and not really bolted on real tight. I bolted the Spitfires on to burn off the paint they had from shipping so I could then remove them and paint them with a heat paint. Well when I started motor I saw antifreeze leaking from front end and rear end where header is bolted. Do you think it is because I didn't have header gasket and didn't have bolts pulled up real tight, or something else? Thanks Mike

Thanks Rumble. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the antifreeze leaking out around the end bolts, after all the work I just finished. Thanks again guys. Mike

LOL, I know exactly what you mean.

I seal the threads on the end studs/bolt with high temp RTV. I have had them seep when I installed them dry.
