Will start prepping a '68 GTS for SS. Looking for headers that will fit the 440.

The usual suspects-
Tti, Schumacher.
Older Hookers or ProParts if you can find them.
And some alternatives from the BigBlockDart.com tech archives:

If seriously racing, consider custom built.

A stock/super stock tear down with an off-the-shelf big block a-body header is something I wouldn't look forward to.

For power, the TTI seem to work good for a shelf Abody-Bengine header but if you are ever going to compete in SS...you'll need a custom set. FWIW there was a company advertising a shelf header for this application on racing junk. I have no experience in the 'service access' that the TTI allow and when a custom set is made they definitely can be done in a way that saves time and grief along with making more HP.

Unless you set a record or win a competitive class at Indy, tear downs are quite rare anymore.

I can't speak to tti headers on a rb engine but on my b engine with 2.125 primaries I can say the fit, the made 26 more HP than my fender well 2 inch and they're very nice but not a true race header.
Eventually I'll put on a better collector to see if anything is there to gain...I just want to let them get beat up a little 1st.

Have the 2" Tti on my 72 Duster with a 440. Really wanted the 1 7/8 but Tti says they don't fit.

Mine fet well enough, though they hit the pass fender and the pass side torsion bar( aftermarket bigger bars). Not an issue just an annoying rattle. I will clearance them when I replace the 440.

Mine was a /6 car that was converted before I bought it. I am not 100% sure the engine is located properly.

What little experience I have had with BB A body headers. One, I helped on a Duster years ago, it had somebody's under chassis headers. They fit ok, but one side torsion bar had to be removed to put them in. And you had to pull the trans to change the starter.
Two, just helped a guy with a 440 and TTI 2" headers. They hit most of the steering.
I called TTI and they said they probably do! I made spacers to raise the motor. It helped some but not enough. The guy is now going the small block route.

I have 1 7/8 on my Spool mount 440/727 in my 68 Dart. I think they fit well. I bought used so previous owner had to ding them near the torsion bar. I did a thread on how I changed my mini starter with them. I can't speak for the 2" ones only read they were tough.

what a quitter
to go to the trouble of fitting the 440 to then give up 'cos the headers need work to make them fit?

Don't fit with power steering. I switched to manual steering and the drivers side clears fine.

Wasn't my call, but I didn't try to talk him into it, or out of it either... If his engine was mounted by engine plates I would have done something completely different. But he had the last say. Gene.
