headliner for a 72 swinger

i have beat my head against the wall. the hardboard headliner is just too expensive. being a mid year 72 swinger, can it be retroed easily to the fabric bow headliner of eariler years? i realize it might take longer but time is cheaper than money on a budget??

If your current head liner is ok, i removed mine sprayed adhesive on it and applied fabric from a fabric store. Came out nice. Just a thought.
