Can ya find one for a E-body Cuda, '73?

I could never spend 222.00+ on a headliner, would just find a used one and paint/recover it

I wish!!! Seems like the ABS ones are only available for the cars that originally had cardboard headliners. Since the E-body's had fabric headliners, no dice. I'd put an ABS headliner in my Challenger in a heartbeat if I could find one.

Good luck with that. The factory cardboard headliners are ridiculously fragile at this point. I had a decent one in the '74 Dart I parted out, it was thrashed by the time I got it out. They can't be folded back up and shipped, so, you pretty much have to find one in person, VERY carefully remove it, and turn around and install it. Bend it, fold it, drop it, etc, and its done. I don't even know how you could transport one without trashing it, let alone ship one. You might be able to dye one back to looking half decent with aerosol vinyl dye. Covering one would be a PITA. You'd need a ton of adhesive, and the cardboard is ridiculously brittle.

The fabric kind cost a ton less, but they're a pain in the @** to install. And, they don't last as long either. And did I mention they're a PITA to install properly? Take a fabric headliner to an upholstery shop and ask how much it costs to install. The ABS ones install in 15 minutes and can be done at home, by you, without removing the glass. You'll be money ahead over paying to have a fabric one installed.

Yes, the ABS ones cost a lot. But not only does it look way better than even a brand new cardboard headliner, it will probably be the last headliner I ever have to install in my Duster. Well worth it in my opinion, and I'm a cheap SOB.

The only Cuda that had a headliner of cardboard would be the overhead console optioned units in which I think we're only Grand Coupes. This, I would like to copy in my '73.

I took a carboard style liner and re-covered it in modern headliner material. Looked like it belonged there.

The Challenger "SE" models also had the overhead consoles and a reduced size rear window. I don't recall the headliner material but you could be very well correct on the cardboard. I had a 70 Chally RT/SE 440-6, Auto, Dana. I paid 1,200 for it around 1980. Boy, I wish I could have that one back...!

Yeah, Gran Coupes and Challenger SE's had cardboard headliners that were covered in fabric. On that note, I've seen a few of those for sale because the fabric helped preserve the cardboard. But I haven't seen them repopped, you'd have to find an original to recover or use as a pattern.

Hmm I guess in cali the heat must wreck them, my 1974 swingers came out just fine, was green and I shot it black, not prefect but it only cost 6 bucks for a can of plastic/vinyl spray paint. My moms dusters headliner came out just fine as well, getting ready to be sprayed black as well, not fragile at all my darts headliner got moved around in the garage for almost a month.... Removed it while it was in storage and threw it in the back of a jeep Cherokee and had not one single problem

All of the one's I've seen are dried out, except for the one in my Duster. It has leaky seals at the glass, so its water damaged around the edges. :violent1:

When they get dried out, they're more like paper than cardboard. Not saying it can't be done, but the one's I've dealt with fell apart pretty easily.

Regardless, the foam covered ABS ones look about a million times better than the cardboard ones do, even in good condition.

$170 shipped. Same ABS headliner I posted earlier, just uncovered. The foam backed tier grain vinyl is worth the extra $50.

Almost positive this is the same manufacturer that Newstaligia sells, but its direct from the manufacturer. The foam backed vinyl version is about $70 cheaper on Amazon, and that's shipped.

see for 170 id buy a plain one

Why? The plain ABS will look like crap, there's no texture to it or anything so you'd still have to cover it. You'd probably spend at least $50 in materials to do that, so why not just buy one with the vinyl on it already? Unless you're planning a custom fabric or something. I mean, I don't like the $220 hit either, but I see how they get to that price. Especially if the plain ABS sheet is going to cost $170.

Right. Now spend at least $100 having it installed, or spend the better part of a day of your life trying to get it to fit right before you do it yourself. Not to mention its not really an option for the cars that came with a cardboard headliner, unless you source the top bows too.
