Help! '64 170- '66 170

So I picked up a ratty '64 Dart170 2dr with a 170ci slant and a three speed on the column. The add said doesnt run, the add was wrong. It runs, on most of its cylinders. It has cracked/blown rings on cylinder 3. It puffs smoke like a train out of the valve cover! This hasnt stopped me from driving, killing all my chances of being liked by my neighbors!

Anyways, picked up a 75k mile 170ci slanty outve a '66 Valiant on the cheap to replace my original engine. I replaced the consumables, water pump, timing chain, etc., and all gaskets except the head gasket. I intend on doing a head job later.

So the question is regarding my replacements engine originally being backed by an auto trans vs the 3spd manual Im putting it in front of now. Is there anything other than the obvious thats different?
 
No difference use it. If you look in the rear of the crankshaft of the automatic engine you will most likely find it also has a pilot bushing installed the factory did this in the 60,s

Just make sure the 66 engine has the pilot bushing installed in the end of the crank ( the crank should be drilled/reamed, but no bushing installed, if automatic). Then bolt the engine in the 64 car.
PS: If you want to sell the engine mount brackets, oil pan and pickup tube from the take out engine, send me a PM.
 
So Charrlie_S, If I remove my 3 speed standard there will Not be a bushing ?
This tells me if I change to an automatic I just need to get a bushing and put it in the pilot hole to go with an automatic in my 66 Valiant 170/6 ?

No, the 3 speed standard trans WILL have the pilot bushing. A auto trans will have the hole for the pilot bushing, but most likely not the bushing, itself. To use a engine that came from a auto trans, with a standard trans, you need to install the bushing.
PS: If the crank has the bushing, it does not need to be removed to use an auto trans.

Not bad for $500! Intend on keeping it a ratty driver and having a lot of fun putting a lot of miles on it! Need to keep the milles off my '12 Ram!
