Hello all,

I am going to be building a 340 for my 1970 Duster over the winter. I recently bought some more parts on the board from another member, but what I have as of now:

'70 340 block already 0.030" over (may clean up or go to .040")
340 Forged Crank
Kevko Oil Pan
Edelbrock 6077 Heads
Crane Gold Roller Rockers
Mopar M1 Single Plane Intake
Custom Comp Cam Hyd Roller Cam 242/248 @ .050, .540/.540
Milodon Gear Drive
Oil Pump Drive W/Bronze Gear
ARP head bolts
Felpro 1008 Head Gaskets
Mr. Gasket Cam install gasket set

I was also planning on adding:
K1 Connecting rods
Forged Pistons at zero deck (will deck block)
ARP main studs (is hughes girdle worth it)
Quick Fuel Double Pumper (not sure if i want 650, 750, annular, or standard)

Car is a 1970 Duster, 4-speed, 3.23:1 gears and 225-60/15 tires.

I was thinking that the cam I have is too big (would still like a roller cam, maybe like an XE280HR), that I don't need the gear drive, and that I would be better served by an air gap intake. Also, I'm worried that the edelbrock valve springs might not be very good and that I would like to change to beehive (looks like there are several brands that go right on the edelbrock heads).

Looking to get a target of 425-450hp, streetable engine, turns some RPMs since its fun with a 4-speed.

Thanks for the help.

hey there got a similar combo in my car , first this is just opinion, i would prob go with scat i beams they are good light and cheaper good to 650 hp, unless you go radical on cam the springs will be ok , i run a 750 aed hohp and works great, the air gap is an awesome intake if your not going to turn it over say7000 it will work great, i would say arp studs would do the job just fine and save you money, the hp goals are well within reach, my combo= 340 30 over srp, 540 549 solid hughes ported eddys victor 340 in auto, made 391 at the wheels, maybe this helps:D o on pump gas to

Sounds like a good set up , should make what you're aiming at . Add a bit of gear and you'll be screaming with that M-1 , with 323 maybe the air gap .
Good luck

Forgot to add , look at the Mahle forged pistons for the 340 , the shop that built my 340 was impressed with them , so am I . Light and strong .

girdle = waste
750DP
I'd run an air gap before an M1.

If the heads/valve train are decent it will make power to the 6400 range is my guess and could make 450ish+ HP

Nice combo,you could ask comp,for a cast iron gear cam core.My Magnum cam from Crower came as such.That way,you could run a standard intermediate shaft(d/c p.n. 3690715). That way,no disassembly needed,for bronze shavings.Not real good,for a street /strip mill.
