I have a 72 scamp with a 318 and a 833 4 speed. I bought this car without shifter linkage, a rear end, engine etc because it was a rust free west coast car.
I have a frame support member just ahead of the hurst shifter and it will not allow convetional 833 linkage to mount. Do I have to remove it and weld in a new section for the shift rods to mount or is there another way. The most difficult rod is the reverse rod. Any advice would help.

I am thirty miles west of Chicago. Thanks.

The 1/2 and 3/4 rods go above the cross member and the reverse is bent so that it goes under and comes back up to the reverse lever. If your linkage does not clear then it's not A-body linkage or maybe it's not an A-body shifter.

FWIW, whether the car is an A, B or E body the shifter linkage is routed the same, the linkage is just different lengths and bent differently. This is the reason that compared to an automatic car there is a big extension on the tunnel intruding into the drivers side floor.
