I am looking at a 360 from a motorhome the casting # is 4006830-360-8 I have been searching online for info but haven't found much. What I would like to know is aside from pulling the pan is there a way to know if a block is 4bolt main or 2 bolt? I have heard that 2 bolts are actually stronger so thats what I am looking for.

easy...there are no 4 bolt main 360 from the factor...and there are no 4 bolt main 340s from the factory...and there are no 4 bolt main 318s from the factory....

From that casting number I can say that it is a post 1974 engine. The casting date and the assembly stamp wll give you an origin for the motor, although if it is a motor home engine, the assembly info may be confusing. Geof

I haven't gone to look at it yet, days its a 78.He also has the 727,would that work in a car? He wants to sell together

need to look at the trans to check the tail shaft....some motor homes trans have a different tail shaft...

my 78 motorhome with 360 has a regular 727 tail shaft...so possible.
