Hemi goes boom

I knew this was going to be Beckman at Epping... I was watching it live on a little screen on the seat in front of me while we flew back from Florida and it still made me jump when I saw it - - he lost in round 2 on Monday - got beat at the tree - too bad too because he STILL had the car to beat!!
 
he played it cool in the interview afterward but he was shaken up - if you have ever watched an interview of him before, you could tell he was stunned a little...

I would be too, did you see that blower come off of the engine?
 
It's hard to imagine what just the concussion of the explosion and fire feels like let alone all the shrapnel flying around. A testament to the safety devises these cars have.
 
you gotta hand it to him - jumped back in and went 325 two days later (would have been 1 day except for the BS RAIN Sunday - yea, I was there)
 
Back in the day before the safety devices the blower would rocket upwards. One time I saw a piston go flying out of the block and through the head. When a transmission or clutch came apart there would be debris scattered all over the track. Sometimes debris would end up in the spectators.
 
he must be getting pretty used to it by now , it seems to be a bi-annual event for him , theres three or four videos from the past few years of this happening to him .
